WEEK 9/10 - title card placements

In my music video, I have decided to place the artist’s logo and song title towards the beginning of the video - this is to quickly familiarise the audience with the artist and the song, the title card follow the artist logo. This placement also conforms to most music video tropes and allows the audience to then concentrate on the video. The artist’s logo will slightly differ from its original design as I wanted to make it feel more dynamic and relevant to the video; instead of the painting filling the negative space of the logo’s borders and typography I will extend the previous shot of the flag on the hill behind the designs (the title cards will act as a mask over this footage).

In my media music video, I plan to make a protest video that will carry themes of empowerment and coalesce. The target audience in which the video will be directed to are socially and culturally conscious young adults in the 16-25 age groups who fall into the middle to upmarket demographic. The primary angle in which I am targeting my audience is through their age demographic and socially conscious leanings; because of this, I will be focusing on the themes of female empowerment and women’s liberation. My chosen song is ‘100 years’ by Florence and the Machine and the video will reflect the artist’s frustrations at the current struggle of female empowerment by looking back at past movements. The song itself addresses the artist’s overwhelming feelings on major events that took place in the years around the song’s release in 2018 – namely the Harvey Weinstein allegations. This personal approach to situations is part of the artist’s brand and ultimately creates a more human...

My music video to the song ‘100 years’ by Florence and the Machine will follow the story of three different women from their own time periods fighting for women’s rights. The main message is to show this struggle and its relevance and necessity in this day and age. I plan to address this narrative and theme through imagery and media language. Regarding social groups, I plan to represent a range of ages – including ages of the target audience – to highlight and exaggerate the different generations and their struggle. The eras which I will set these characters in are the 1920, 1970, and modern day (2010-2020) and by using mise-en-scene and the age representation, I will be able to create a believable and immersive setting. The video will also feature performative elements of the artist playing and singing along to the song. The inclusion of these sections will help to reinforce the audience’s belief in the artist’s connection and belief behind the message. As well as this...

I will do a series of portraits of the main actors. I will maintain the videos aesthetic by editing and overlaying imagery on to the photos. Alternatively, this could be done when the photos are being taken with a projector, however this will only be possible if I have access to one. An alternative possibility of the actors’ set of photos would be to recreate famous protest photos from their era – this would enhance the intertextuality aspect of the video and website. As well as the actors’ photos, I will compose a photo shoot for the artist consisting of photos taken during filming and portraits similar to the actors’ set – this will help to keep a consistent aesthetic between the website and the video. I could also plan certain photos of the flowers that will be featured in the video. These could either be directly taken from the footage of the flowers or be taken after/during filming. This will help to maintain the video’s aesthetics on the webpage. The photos will be shot a...
WEEK 6 - mood board revised

when overlooking the previous version of my mood board, I wasn't happy with how the different colours and aesthetics were combined and used together. Because of this I then picked out a colour scheme that was able to link each movement I want to display - pink - and focused my new board and theme around this spectrum. The use of the flower imagery was also added to create an interesting feature that could be introduced in to the cinematography. The piano scene could also be a reference image for where the artist will preform in the video. The use of these pink tones could also be considered as intertextuality as the audience's demographic would associate these colours with the current movements

For my mood board, I focused in iconic imagery from each movement; suffragette, women’s liberation, and #MeToo. this will appeal to the audiences expectation of a protest song as to covers a socially conscious issue which is still relevant today. I also took the key colours from these images to create the overall colour pallet that I will attempt to use – this will help to develop the video’s style

WEEK 4 - NEW - song choice

100 years - Florence and The Machine The main reason that I changed my artist and song choice was due to the message I wanted to convey – with my previous song choice (Nina Cried Power by Hozier), it had a closer relevance to the civil right movement despite having universal themes relevant to the protest genre; this message didn’t align with what I wanted to portray and because of this, I thought it best to change the song to something which reflected my theme of female empowerment more. Despite not being a traditional protest song, ‘100 years’ addresses the artist’s overwhelming feelings on major events that took place in the years around the song’s release in 2018. One of the events that the song references to during this time is the #MeToo movement which was revived following the exposure of the widespread sexual-abuse allegations against Harvey Weinstein in early October 2017. As well as this, the song also refers to the one-hundred-year anniversary of women being granted th...
