WEEK 5 - Audience Description

Audience description  The audience that the video will be directed to are socially conscious young adults who fall into the middle to upmarket demographic. This audience would be passionate about current and contemporary social movements and care about the changing world around them to promote social change.  Members of this audience are more likely to partake in protests and campaigns for their beliefs and, with their shared social identity, would work towards a common goal. As this audience is more socially aware and active, they would be a higher chance that they would pay more for socially responsible goods and services; some brands of clothing similar to ‘Tentree’ or ‘Alternative Apparel’ would be favoured by this group due to the companies’ ethics and environmental approach despite the higher prices. This similar mindset can be seen with food choices as there would probably also be a higher chance of a person from this group to be vegetarian or vegan. When attracting...

WEEK 4 - song choice

Nina Cried Power – Hozier ft. Mavis Staples I have chosen this song to create a music video for as it reflects on the classic forms of protest songs in a timeless manner. Because of this wide interpretation and application of the song’s context, it gives me lots of potential for the subject of my music video. Originally, the song was inspired by the civil rights movement and is a tribute to Nina Simone. The song also mentions other significant musicians who influenced the movement and music genre, such as Billie Holliday, Curtis Mayfield and Patti LaBelle. When asked about the song, the artist - Hozier – stated; “[It’s] a suggestion that the battle for equality these artists championed remains an ongoing and necessary one. “The fights that took place 100 years ago or 200 years ago for whatever — civil rights or workers' right etc. — don’t stop.” The artist of the song often portrays social messages through their songs and accompanying music    though its video, and ‘Cher...

Dear Rubyworks, I am a year 12 student currently studying at Weald of Kent Grammar school and I understand that you are the copyright owners of the song “Nina Cried Power” written and performed by Hozier and Mavis Staples, released on September 9 th 2018. I am writing to seek permission to use the above song in my Media Studies A-Level coursework. The song would accompany a music video which will then be posted on a private YouTube channel where it will await assessment.
